Data deletion

Last updated 12 October 2026.

You can ask us to delete the personal information we hold about you at any time, and you do not have to give a reason. This page explains how to ask and what happens next.

To request deletion, email [email protected] with the subject line "Data deletion request". Tell us which business you messaged and the phone number, Instagram handle or email address you messaged from, so we can find your records.

What you need to tell us

  • the business you contacted, since we process messages on behalf of our clients;
  • the phone number, Instagram username or email address you used; and
  • roughly when you messaged them, if you remember.

We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act. This protects you: without it, somebody else could ask us to delete or disclose your information.

What we delete

On a verified request we remove, from our connection service and, on the client's instruction, from the client's workspace we operate:

  • your messages, comments and emails and any files you sent, including photos, voice notes and documents, and the transcripts and descriptions made from them;
  • replies suggested to you;
  • your platform identifier or email address, name and profile picture as stored by our service; and
  • records that link you to a conversation.

We keep the bare record that a message was sent to you (date and outcome, no content) for up to 12 months where we need it to show we followed the platform's rules.

What we may not be able to delete

Some information sits outside the systems we control, and we will tell you where that applies:

  • The conversation on the platform itself. A WhatsApp or Instagram thread lives in the business's own inbox on Meta's platform. Ask the business, or delete your side of the conversation in the app.
  • Records the business must keep. If you placed an order, tax and consumer protection law may require the business to keep the transaction record for a set period. That record belongs to them, not to us.
  • Information we are required to retain by law, which we keep only for as long as the law requires and only for that purpose.

How long it takes

We acknowledge requests within 5 working days and complete them within 30 days. If a request is complex and needs longer, we will tell you why and give a date.

Deleting data connected to a Meta platform

If you interacted with one of our clients through WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook, the request above covers everything Sayliss received from Meta about you. You can also review and remove the apps connected to your own Meta account:

  • Instagram: Settings and privacy, then Website permissions, then Apps and websites.
  • Facebook: Settings and privacy, then Settings, then Apps and websites.

For our clients

If you are a business using Sayliss and you want the data we hold on your behalf removed, email [email protected] from an address on your account. On termination we delete or return that data within 60 days, except where the law requires retention.

If you are not satisfied

Tell us and we will look again. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za, or to your national data protection authority if you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom.
